Jean-Servais Somian already has a long list of exhibitions internationally: Cologne, Aachen, Paris, Algiers and Dakar … But it is at home, in Côte d’Ivoire, that he enjoys the best recognition and that he sells the best. “At each exhibition, everyone wants to leave with his coconut tree,” he smiles. The artist was awarded the 2013 Archibat prize, awarded at Abidjan’s first design fair.

He gets visitors from Senegal and as far as South Africa to his Grand-Bassam workshop which is by the sea, looking to buy his designer furniture to be used decorating design hotels.

Among his most spectacular creations are the fishermen’s canoes transformed into sofas. The interior of the ship is padded with red or bright yellow leather.
