“My art expresses the hidden side of the SAPE, in particular through my childish and innocent graphics, as if ‘la Sape “ were child’s play in which the sappers are engaged. The latter being capable of the worst extremes during their clothing “hostilities” whilst spending more than 99.99% of their income!
la SAPE is at the heart of the life of young people in my neighborhood in Kinshasa, and as a social phenomenon, LA  SAPE has a considerable influence on Kinshasa’s youth. This is the Reason why I started to paint this phenomenon . So my painting is a brushed fresco, not without a touch of
cynicism regarding Kinshasa’s contemporary society ”, explains Dolet Malalu

From 2006, Malalu worked on Scénographie Urbaine de Kinshasa which was created together with the reknown artist from Benin République, Dominique ZINKPE.

In 2009 he collaborates with the project In Situ atelier de création et de réflexion sur l’art contemporain animated by the Cameroonian  artist who has passed away , Gody LEYE.

Dolet is an avant-gardist painter of Congolese origin . His desire  to liberate the plastic figuration contrasts in an environment where academic figurative art is more the rule. Wood, kraft paper or linen canvas, are the favorite media he uses as original as they are eclectic, and reflect his taste for this new approach. He likes simple materials such as acrylics, pastels, collages and also excels in working with paper.
Far from classic creations, his work takes us outside normal codes, by deconstructing our representations . Inspired by the graffiti of children that can be found in the streets of Kinshasa, Dolet Malalu thus favors the use of acrylic and pastel , as if to return to his first sketchbooks. A flashback that also allows you to take a fresh look at a fashion phenomenon that is akin to a game of a child.
