Triple Triptych

Interested by the personal experience of a Sudanese migrant met in Italy, the artist VND wanted to tell his story in her own way.

The first painting: Triple Drought. It speaks of the economic reasons pushing migrants to leave their country. It is also due to climatic changes which is only accelerating the phenomenon of migration. The first depicts the saharan desert is the first step of the path to exile.

The second painting: Depths. This painting symbolizes the foam, the waves and the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea which has become a cemetery for migrants who dare to try and cross it. The layers of foam are superimposed on the deeper waves sucking down unconscious.

The third painting depicts the notion of illusions. Eldorado is finally reached for those who think they are thelucky ones. The lights of the city shine … most often dormitory city lights. Prison cities – literally and figuratively – of which one becomes a prisoner. The painting portrays a distorted perspective of things such as  buildings, prisons or medical gauze to heal the wounds of the soul and the pains of exile.
